Our Woodland Setting

From Birth to End of Life: Our mission is to change the face of early years education and day care as we know it, in the UK, for all ages. A diverse community that doesn’t fit into a box.

We have fallen into a trap of convincing ourselves of our autonomy, of our separateness from Nature – there is another way

Paul Clarke

We blend the popular Forest Schools Philosophy with our own ‘Bigger Than Us’ curriculum to give meaning and a sense of ownership to every learner, at every age. Our setting offers a sense of freedom to unlock genuinely raw creativity and empower individualism.

Our wider community has been growing since 2011 and continues to strengthen. Much more than a typical day care setting, our children attend for the experience and the community value. Some of our families take ownership of the brand and get involved in our volunteering days and enjoy the opportunities to connect with like minded parents and carers.

Our Setting
The Den is our early years base camp. A creative space for Children to learn and play together. Our rich style of learning offers children, what we perceive to be, the best and healthiest start to life. We offer children and families the real outdoor ‘good life’ experience within our combined Forest and Permaculture sites. There’s always work to be done here and children love having the opportunity to join in, contribute and have, if they choose, their own responsibilities and learn for themselves about the world. Nurturing our animals, discovering life in the ponds, playing within the forests and learning about organic farming Our children are mini-conservationists in the making! We include weekly trips out to various local sites of natural interest which involves looking beyond our setting and talking about the diversity of the local environment. Learning hands-on, moving within natural spaces, planting, growing, harvesting and being around animals. All of this gives our children a much deeper understanding of how to care for all things living, themselves and others included. This is an ideal place for Children and Families who are looking for a meaningful experience and time away from home whilst parents may or may not have to return back to work. Babies can join us from a young age if work draws you back earlier than anticipated, contact us to find out more.
