The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the statutory framework for Early Years education in England. It is the framework every provider follows as a minimum standard in the UK. At the end of the EYFS which is completed by the end of a Child’s Reception year at school, most children should have achieved their “early learning goals”. Alongside the EYFS, a non-statutory guidance, Development Matters is available for guidance.

We are advocates of deferring School placements to extend a Child’s play based woodland adventures. We believe that 4 is far too young to start formalising education and as much research highlights, at the age of 7, children can be taught more effectively as their brains are better equipped to learn in a traditional classroom.
