October 2025: Autumn magic & inclusive moments

October in the forest is quietly spectacular

As our leaves drift from the trees and different shapes and colours of fungi’s peek through leaf litter, children uncover magic only nature can offer open-ended, sensory-rich, and deeply inclusive.

Throughout October, we’ve shared nature play ideas, from texture hunts to shadow walks and sensory potions. We’ve seen the Children create “a human Popcorn Machine!” with loose parts play. It was a moment of pure ingenuity, where physics met play and every child had a role to perform.🍿🌰💰

At Forest School for Life, every child belongs in nature and nature meets every child right where they are. This month we shine a light on inclusive practice with a special focus on SEN awareness.

🌱 Nature play for every pathway

We welcome all learning styles and rhythms. Whether a child prefers quiet mossy corners or climbs boldly into the canopy of an idea, the forest adapts. Sticks don’t judge. Nature doesn’t rush. Fire circles hold space.

Later in the month, the Den became a hairdressers and spa, complete with mud face packs, whacky hairstyles, and gentle rituals of care. Children brushed each other’s hair with tenderness, offered clips and bands with encouragement, and held space for each other’s choices. Staff joined in too, modelling joy and trust in the process. 👦🖌🪮

And just when the pampering reached its peak, the mud kitchen opened for afternoon tea, real crockery, real conversation, and real connection. Customers from the spa sipped imaginary brews and nibbled leaf biscuits, their cups filled with more than pretend tea: they held belonging, laughter, and the quiet pride of shared creation.

These moments of acorn engineering, spa rituals, and muddy hospitality are more than play. They are the roots of relationship, the foundation of future learning. They remind us that children thrive when given space to lead, to care, and to co-create.

🦡 Wildlife watch & trail Cams

Our monthly trail cam update reveals nocturnal wonders: the Badgers, and a curious fox.

Warm wishes from the forest paths, until next month,
